Everybody wants to know how long does it take to build muscle but the truth is that there is no absolute answer to this question. Instead, the pace at which muscle is built depends on a number of factors including body type, diet and exercise.
First of all, some people simply aren’t meant to carry a lot of muscle or to gain it quickly. These body types require a lot of work in order to put on muscle but it can be done.
Conversely, others will find that they can put muscle on quickly and with less effort simply because they have the right genetics for it.
Genetics are a personal factor in assessing how long it takes to build muscle but diet and exercise are two factors that can be controlled. Whether you consume a diet high in protein or not will determine much of the pace at which you build muscle.
A vegetarian will take longer to put on muscle than an individual who eats plenty of lean red meat or fish will. Similarly, an individual who works out every day will enjoy faster progress than someone who exercises sporadically and without the right equipment.
For all these reasons, it’s impossible to provide people with a definitive answer when they want to know how long it will take to build muscle. That being said, if an individual exercises regularly and eats a high-protein diet they can expect to build muscle in a matter of weeks regardless of their body type.

There are a few things that can be done to increase the rate of muscle growth that individuals should try especially if they have a slim body type. First, consider taking a protein supplement.
Protein supplements can drastically improve your rate of muscle growth especially if you choose one that works quickly after your workout. The body processes different proteins in different ways so if you’re looking for one to take immediately after a strength training session you should consider a whey protein supplement (the body processes whey in just 15 minutes).
You can also improve the pace at which you build muscle by exercising more often and with free weights. Resistance machines may be the easiest and most comfortable way to work out but they don’t build muscle as effectively as free weights that work multiple muscles at once.
If you don’t think you’re building muscle fast enough, try switching from resistance machines to free weights and you should see improved progress in a week or two. Of course, achieving progress in a matter of weeks all depends on exercising four or more times a week and no less.
Remember, just because the rate at which we build muscle largely depends on our body type doesn’t mean there aren’t steps we can take to speed it up. Try working out more often, taking protein supplements or changing your diet if you aren’t happy with the progress you are making.
